Madam,

Catherine and I will be sailing for France on September 20. I would like to know whether you would enjoy Catherine's presence at some time. If we can find an apartment fast enough, we will stay for a year or more.

Are you aware of any studio in Paris, or just outside, near Pte d'Orléans, Parc Montsouris, Alésia for 17.500 F per month, with kitchen and bathroom? Can we live on 40 to 42.000 F per month? With 93.000 or 85.000, does it make it any easier?

I am not requesting any help. I just wish to know if Catherine can or must visit you. Armand and I agree on this point. Obviously, there is no need to raise the past. It would be useless. Nevertheless, being her grand mother, and us coming to France, I must fulfill my duty in letting you meet and know Catherine.

Can you respond by mail what the price is for the boarding school run by nuns on rue des Plantes ? Full or half-board. If you could find out and inform us, we would be very pleased. I also believe that you have a telephone. Would it be possible for you to rent us a room while we are looking for an apartment? A copy of France-soir a colleague brought back indicates that, when one can pay, one can find housing.

Although Armand knows of all this, it may be preferable not to mention anything. Us alone know what we want.

I am counting on your better judgement and expect an answer as soon as possible. This would allow me to save time and effort.

Thanking you in advance, and possibly in the expectation of meeting you, please accept my respectful greetings.

B. Camus

P.S. In case of non response, it would be useless to try to meet Catherine after the fact. We want peace and tranquility above all - and we have had it for quite a while. I do not wish to be nasty, this has nothing to do with you today, but you were at the source of this four years ago. May the past be forgotten and, if possible, to a better future.
